The Mini Lives of Minikins kickstarts the Christmas season

PickPath has been chosen by Creative Capital Arts Trust (the people behind CubaDupa and NZ Fringe) and Wellington City Council to help encourage active transport options for Wellingtonians of all ages to get to this year’s Glover Park Christmas Market on Saturday 29 November.

Creative Director Joel Baxendale has developed a PickPath experience for travellers on the Island Bay cycleways from Island Bay to the city.

“Follow the Island Bay cycleways from Island Bay to Town, helping the hidden residents of Pōneke, the Minikins, with some little errands .

This community art trail celebrates imagination, nature, and exploration. Hidden along the city’s cycle and walking routes are miniature dioramas revealing the secret world of the Minikins, the small, kind-hearted beings of folklore who live quietly alongside humans.

Each tiny scene offers a glimpse into their hidden lives. their homes, workshops and daily routines, all crafted from natural and upcycled materials.”

The PickPath experience, The Mini Lives of Minikins, guides curious Wellingtonians to all of these dioramas before arriving at Glover Park to start the Christmas celebrations.

While the experience is launching on 29 November, it will be available to curious travellers for the entire summer.

PickPath and the Minikins are grateful for the support of Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture & Heritage and Newtown Community Centre - Te Whare Hapori o Ngā Puna Waiora.
