Anderson Localisation is “brilliant and unforgettable”

Afterburner's hybrid PickPath experience wowed audiences at the recent Dunedin Arts Festival.

The Anderson Localisation used the PickPath app to guide participants around a Dunedin laneway populated with performers and artefacts in order to discover a world that was described by reviewer Terry MacTavish as: “both physical along spooky No Name Alley, and mystical, through our Victorian city’s history, to see those who might have walked here before us, and through our own minds, to contemplate the paradox and mystery of our construct of time. Such immersive theatre installations demand imagination, courage and technical expertise, none of which is lacking.”

The Anderson Localisation was created by Afterburner: Martyn Roberts, David O’Donnell, Hilary Halba, Sofia Kalogeropoulou, David Hutchinson, Doug Ditford and Amanda Faye Martin.

In their review, MacTavish wrote: “In my personal alternate universe, I may not have gained great insight into the curious pathways of physics, but I am very happy to have explored No Name Alley with others, immersed myself in my city’s intriguing past, and been stirred to even more intriguing speculations on the great existential questions. Those may bear fruit in the future, but in the meantime, though the science still baffles me, as a theatrical experience this has been completely captivating, and naturally, I am more than proud to have helped restore a sense of stability to our quantum universe.”
